Free-Motion Quilting Workshop- Sat. & Sun. March 24- 25th

  • Please read all Studio Terms & Conditions before registering for class.
  • Saturday & Sunday, March 24-25th
  • 10:00- 5:00pm each day (Saturday & Sunday)
  • 6 hour class (7 hours total with 1 hour off for lunch on your own)
  • Level: Confident Beginner with quilting experience
  • Includes supply kit:
    • Sample quilt sandwiches for practicing free motion quilting exercises
    • 1 spool of quality polyester thread for free motion quilting
  •  Please bring:  
    • Your sewing machine with extension table* if you have one for it.  (* highly recommended for free motion quilting)
    • an open-toe darning foot or free motion/stippling foot for your specific machine
    • a universal 90/14 sewing machine needle
    • 1-3 empty bobbins for your specific machine make & model (check your user manual for details)
    • your preferred fabric marking tool (water soluble marker, chalk, etc.)
    • Sewing Machine user manual & necessary accessories
    • A sewing machine and supplies needed to complete the project will be loaned to you for use in this class if you do not have your own but it highly recommended you bring your own sewing machine for this type of a workshop as the only way to get better is to learn the nuances of your

  • This weekend workshop is for adult quilters who are confident beginners. You must have some quilting experience.  We will assume you know how to sew a straight seam following a 1/4″ seam allowance and are familiar with quilting terminology and the step by step process of completing a quilt.
  • This class covers the following topics:
  • Day 1:
  • How to make a mini quilt using basic techniques
  • Prepping and cutting fabrics to make mini quilt project
  • How to prepare your sewing machine for free motion quilting
  • Feed dogs up or down?
  • Needle size & type needed for free motion quilting
  • Types of threads used for free motion quilting
  • Polyester vs cotton for free motion quilting
  • Preparing your sewing machine base for free motion quilting
  • Variety of exercises to get a handle on free motion quilting

          Day 2:

  • Preparing mini quilt for quilting
  • Trying out sample designs to fill in mini quilt
  • Finish quilting entire mini quilt
  • How to make and attach quilt binding
  • Sewing on quilt binding by hand or by machine
  • Make and attach quilt label
